2024-2025 was another heavy competition that was unfortunately hindered by rain. However that didn’t stop the fun as we battled it out between the showers to keep things rolling. Day 2 was a write-off, but Day 1 delivered the goods!
The Ramp finals were postponed til late, pending the rain, and it was a hell of a session. I even got to skate in them, so no video, I’m afraid. Shout out, Timmy 2-Stroke, I missed skating with you!

Tom Green, crooked grind.
The boys were on fire, with Bamford, Niwa and Corbz giving the ramp a good seeing to. Judges wanted a “Super Final,” but the boys let skateboarding win and split the $800 between them. Good on ya, lads. It’s well deserved.
Women’s Ramp saw full commitment from the girls and some impressive slams, but Poppy took it out after multiple attempts by doing a handplant on the big end! Well done, Poppy, you earned that one.

Kerehama James, Timmy Two-Stroke (Thomson), and Sam Novak.
Rose Jenkins gave everyone what they wanted to see and banged out a fakie heel flip on the small bank. She’s been working on these for a while, so it was so cool to see! The girls’ comp gets bigger each year, which is great to see
I was lucky enough not to be a judge this year, and oh man, did they have a hell of a job with the Men’s street finals.
It was trick after trick, relentless shredding and back-to-back lands. I don’t know how they managed to make the call on who won in the end. You really couldn’t pick it.

Leighton Dewar, blunt to fakie.
Corbyn Williams took third place. He did a lovely nollie biggy backside lipslide and made everything look easy! James Kingston went into “Senderston” mode and gave it all. He even cracked the tail of his board towards the end. Josh Stewart took first place. Josh had multiple fakie crook variations and showed consistency across all the obstacles on the course. It was truly impressive to watch the lads battle it out. Kingston took out Best Trick with a front blunt fakie down the driveway, Hubba.
I cannot wait for next year!
Sub180 and Pit Viper came through heavy on the prizes once again. Thanks to all the sponsors!
Thanks again to Rolling Meadows for letting skateboarding be a part of this epic weekend.

Niwa Warner.

Corbz, feeble to fakie.

Timmy Two-Stroke, bean plant.

Timmy Two-Stroke, rock ‘n’ roll.

Words from Jack at Duckewe
Hunter Civil, led by Seb Jones, helped lay a 100 sq m concrete expansion for the street section and gifted two heavy-weight welded hubbas to the event. NC Quarry and James Construction supplied all the AP40 (shingle) for free. Rangiora ITM made another substantial contribution that helped us resurface the ramp and platforms, build the concrete forms and mesh reinforcing, add 27 m of seating, and triple our pergola for covered seating to 27 sq m. We learned that it works equally well as a shelter from rain as well as sun. Sparta from Heartwood Construction led the rebuilding of the ramp platforms and resurfaced the ramp to make it event-ready. Outsiders skate store provided a 5th year of cash prizes, whilst Propaganda skate store gave heavy support with decks, wheels, merch and more. Over 350 hours of volunteer labour were given in the lead-up to the event by 34 local volunteers, the majority from the Christchurch skate community. Rolling Meadows provided the major cash sponsorship, which covered all new construction, ramp maintenance, and the majority of the cash prizes. The festival owners, Jamie and Ashleigh, also supported the skate comp with over 130 VIP festival tickets, including camping, worth over $75,000 at regular retail pricing.
Members of Christchurch’s best-known graffiti crews, DTR and Full Steam Ahead, provided some epic new street art for the container ramp. Dcypher, Drows and Ikarus took on the big 40-foot container side with a green theme snake design/Jungle Forever mural. Kophie added two female figures to the container ends along with partner Local Elements, bringing life to the mini ramp backdrop. Right Brain completed this year’s set-up with a calligraphy-based hand-painted design striped across the tabletop street feature.
George ‘the host from the coast’ Read and Captain Johnny Routledge MC’d the skate events covering all of the men’s and women’s street and ramp divisions. George continued the show on day 2, covering best trick comps, some wet limbo and heated basketball events. The judging panel included Krysta Ashwell, Raph Doidge, Will Bartlett and Blaize Taylor (and maybe a few more).
After the incredible support of this year’s event, I’d like to update the phrase “it takes a village” to “it takes a city.” It’s great to be a part of such a passionate and positive community. The big party vibes throughout two grey-skied days are a testament to the legends who get involved each year. Here’s to the next!

Toby Martyn, kickflip.
