After spending the last year working with Converse to craft his dream skate shoe, Gold medal Street League Champion and globally admired skateboarder, Louie Lopez is finally ready to add the new silhouette to the CONS lineup. Officially joining the ranks of elite pro skaters with a signature Converse shoe, the Louie Lopez Pro is the newest signature skate build for the brand in almost six years.
Looking through the Converse archives, Louie was drawn to a tennis silhouette from the 70s featuring a butted seam upper construction that offered softer lines—a style element not seen in most of today’s skate shoes.
Constantly swapping between two silhouettes while on the board—the One Star CC Pro and the Breakpoint Pro—the Louie Lopez Pro effortlessly combines all three silhouettes to create a shoe that’s uniquely Louie: a poised classic, ready to withstand the test of time.
For Louie, it’s a career highlight.
“I wouldn’t even say as a kid, even when you’re an adult. That’s why it’s always been so special. It is not something everyone gets, cause it’s not easy to get.”
And, he made sure to have a stake in every step of the design process.
Alongside the Converse design team, Louie crafted a silhouette to his specifications, not forgoing a single technical detail. Beginning with the Chuck Taylor All-Star outsole—a Converse element Louie exclusively skates with as it helps maximizes grip—the silhouette touts trimmed foxing tape, a perforated tongue for maximum breathability, a dual density Ortholite sock liner with Zoom air bag for comfort and a reworked collar to optimize heel lock down.
Starting as a child skate prodigy to a now global star, family has been Louie’s constant, keeping him grounded as his career blossomed.
“As soon as I let the family know I was getting a shoe, it felt like we were all getting one. Our last name was on a shoe… that was surreal.”
And it’s definitely a surreal moment. He joins an elite lineup of skaters with a signature shoe and continues to set a high bar for Converse’s roster of athletes. And, as a signature marker for past pros, the silhouette features a gold foil insignia spelling out “L. Lopez” on the upper, forever stamping his mark on the sport.
With a work ethic that has driven him to go beyond and held him to high standards for nearly 20 years, Louie continues to dream big and set his sights on the next challenge, while keeping the company of fellow legends and branching the gap between competitor and friend very few manage to do.
