Last year’s NZ SOTY, Christian Low, joins us for the first Grilled – a series of exclusive mini interviews we’ll be bringing to you on the reg’.
What’s it like being a Pizza Boy?
It’s okay. The owners are really cool and give me time off to go on trips when I need to. Plus I only work at night so I get all day to skate. But most importantly it pays the rent and we get free pizza for the flat.
What was the Element trip to Taiwan like?
Pretty amazing. For me it was my first time out of Australasia, so that was cool. The spots are unreal there. We had a guide over there Kenji who helped us out so much. Without him we basically would have been screwed. Cheers Kenji Desu!
How has the move to Melbourne been?
It’s been good; I’m really enjoying it over here. There are a lot more opportunities skating wise over here that you just can’t get in New Zealand. That being said I still call New Zealand home and plan to move back one day, but Melbourne’s where I need to be right now.
What’s the living situation like in a house of ex-pats?
It’s cool. Klawws (Kayle Lawson) hooked it up so I had a house to move into as soon as I moved over, which was a big help. We are pretty close to the city, which is sick.
Who do you think will be the next NZ SOTY?
I honestly don’t know. Maybe Beach? Or Chase? Yeah, I’ll say Chase. I’m hyped on him he’s been killing it for so long, good to see he’s getting the coverage he deserves now.
Christian was crowned Manual Magazine Skater Of The Year 2012 and took out the cover of Manual #49. If you are after a copy you can find one on our web store.
