Way Back Wednesday with Geetz 29

Legends x Brev Arthur

Favourites for me are hard to come by. You ask me my favourite beer, song, place, whatever it is I have about ten for each. Possibly I can narrow it down to three on a good day. However there is one topic that I can give you one and only one answer to, which has also forever been a constant to this day. Half or most won’t even know my name or give a fuck either, however, lets say hypothetically you just met me hanging out at the Caffiene Lab, on one of my many “shifts” with Geetz and it comes out I used to skate and you ask me who my favorite skater is. Without hesitation Mr Lavar McBride has left my mouth frothing, I then recount why. This dude has so much good shit about him I don’t know where to start. I fell in love with his style instantly. From his big gangly arms and the way he throws them up when he pops a trick, followed by their come down, his fresh as fresh get-ups, his smooth skating style and anytime a section came out it was a banger. He got me hooked on Jimmy cliff, I must have listened to those two tracks on Trilogy a thousand times whilst working at Wide Load. He had my favourite pro boards of all time, the Lavar Kung Fu (as seen below), but better still my favourite trick, the heelflip. Lavar’s heelflips are the fucking dopest! He has them down, all variations and when I use to do them I’d be trying like hell to pop and catch them like him. I recently got a board again after many years away from it and after a sunny flat ground day with Geetz he told me Lavar is back. I watched his new section and fucking died. This is to my man, Lavar McBride.

This is about as official as the switch back heel ( or the swack as we like to call it around here ) gets. It doesn’t get much more official than KALIS either! Droors ad from 1999. Ya feel me!

Menace Epicly Later’d

Javi’s hand is up in part 3 of the Menace Epicly Later’d series. This issue is dope because it touches on a couple sensitive issues in skateboarding nowadays. The whole out with the old and in with the new gig. I dunno, personally I prefer to stick to the classics, I would way rather of seen the Javier board than the Mikey Taylor? He earned it. I actually respect the classics even more when they don’t skate half or more of the time. You don’t gotta chomp on shit to be the man, have a think about that. You shouldn’t have to be told how and when to skate in order to be hooked up, but I guess most people who understand that concept are the people that become or know about the real urban legends.

Stomping Grounds

This may be a long shot but I don’t do jandals and I don’t care if they remind you of hoodrats wearing them with socks. It is the summer season after all! Have a safe festive season Homies! It’s been Real and I hope you are all looking forward to 1998 as much as I am! I can’t wait, the Menace video is apparently dropping too, haha. Peace!
