Ten Things I Love About You

Way back when, getting a new issue of 411 Video Magazine used to be pretty important. You gotta remember that you couldn’t just watch some throwaway shit on the net every day. Companies were not releasing new vids all that often, but then again, I guess that hasn’t really changed. So, to get a new 411 was kinda like gettin’ the equivalent of a web clip/ throwaway footy now, to a certain degree. Don’t get it twisted, 411 was still on top of its game. I guess just more of a means to an end for footy to not get old and to keep shit fresh in between vids. There really isn’t much worse than footy that you put your blood, sweat and tears into never getting used! Anyone else out there hurting right now? If you are reading this and feel somewhat guilty, please put yourself in our shoes. Give it up people! So anyway, back to the beat. 411 was fairly important until I started getting lost around, I don’t know, maybe issue 37? Anyhow, here’s the first ever ‘Chaos’ section from 411 and ten of my more memorable 411 moments. It may even give you some insight on why Kalis left the workshop, if you get me. I hope you enjoy!

C/O wheels were the buisiness. Perhaps due to the sizes they came in! A bit of Sanch, again.

Fine Tuning

Where to start on this one? So there was this earthquake. Maybe not such a good start, but I found myself in Dunedin on the weekend after a very significant event in both mine and so many other peoples lives (400,000 odd to be exact). Random, but to my surprise after such a life changing week, mostly for the worse, the silver lining on the shittiest grey cloud ever was that I finally got to see De La Soul live in Duds. I was pretty happy after being so fucking unsettled and anxious the previous few days. Even though I am a self proclaimed fountain of youth, it was overwhelming how many young cats were at this gig. What was even more overwhelming was that I got the feeling that none of these hipsterish, Lower singlet, skinny jean, flat brimming, slip on canvas joint wearing suckas that were in there even knew any of the songs that De La were playin. Meanwhile, we were buzzin’. They dropped the oldest set, straight up nothing after Stakes, well maybe a couple joints, but it felt like we were getting a private party! Seriously, what I’m trying to say is that De La is another institution in my and countless other heads lives. The old shit is the best though! Thanks to Beau for hookin it up! Ain’t no half steppin’. Here’s Ego Trippin Part 2 and Breakadawn, because I couldn’t choose just one off Bulhoone Mindstate.

De La Soul, Buhloone Mind State.

Stomping Grounds

All I can say is the search is over! It is official, I will be celebrating this weekend. And yes, I will be wearing these joints. Thank you Dan for making the dream come true! Here is the Jordan 6. So glad I got to tick that box!

I was at that De La Soul gig, gotta agree there were a fair few dicks nearer the front, but overall was pretty tight. De La’s banter between songs and overall performance was pretty much perfect.
