Sorry for the lateness of the post, but I needed to sleep. Long nights making the mag are starting to take there toll. Anyway, here’s a little pic from yesteryear that Nolan Ewart kindly sent me (in a pink envelope nonetheless) along with a pic of me sporting a camera, afro and some uber chunky DVS from a nationals B.I.T.D., but no one needs to see that again. This pic however is worth posting up as it’s kind of relevant now since it was shot at a nationals (Nolan, correct me if I’m wrong) too. Nolan, seen here blasting high out of a quarter (like he and cohort Matt Scarrott were/are well known for) at the Skate Domain nationals in Napier sometime in the 1990s. In the right of frame I’m pretty certain that that is a young Steven White, with ponytail, which I believe he still rocks. I remember making a mission from wellington with friends Dean Hunt, Ivan and Greg Gregoroff and friends to this nationals. The van we borrowed from Cheapskates Wellington broke down before Paraparaumu. Dean convince his father to let him take his Triumph (a random and slightly useless fact: Nolan himself is a serial Triumph owner) that was barely roadworthy, and the rest of us took the bus. We ended up sleeping on the ramps (oh the days) and skating to our heart’s content with the likes of Simon Lockett, Chris Schofield, Chey Ataria and Matt Findlay, amongst others. I think I owned a Chris Senn Powell board, this was during the height of his push faster down hill stage. Another fine moment was seeing Paora ‘P Digsss’ Apera (Shapeshifter) playing in a Red Hot Chili Peppers band (Mother’s Milk era) live at the skate park. Now, that’s enough nostalgia to make even me puke, so I’ll let you go about your day.
