Manual contributor and design lord Chris Jackson ran a deck design workshop at The New Dowse on the weekend in conjunction with the Board Art exhibition that is currently on there. He has this to say about the day. “It was a great success and every one of all ages enjoyed the three hour session. Although all of the boards didn’t get ‘finished’, there was some great work and ideas, and many kids took their boards and artwork to finish at home. Everyone walked away with their designs, an issue of Manual and a couple (or three) posters. Some of the graphic layout templates that we designed for the workshop were also taken by a local school teacher to help teach kids numeracy and basic mathematics through skateboarding! Three lucky individuals Tamati, Jackson and (little) Miles walked away with a Joseph Whaanga Deck, a set of wheels and a T-shirt respectively, all donated by ABC. A big thank-you to everyone involved, and to Lucas Wotawa for sanding numerous battered old decks and generally being a good egg.”
